The Catheter Care Nurse is responsible for performing safe and professional catheter insertion, removal, and maintenance in line with clinical best practices and organisational policies. This role supports clients with continence management needs, promotes dignity, and prevents catheter-associated complications.
Perform catheter changes in accordance with clinical guidelines
Use sterile techniques and ensure infection control compliance
Monitor catheter output and identify abnormal signs or symptoms
Document all procedures, observations, and outcomes accurately
Provide patient and family education on catheter care and hygiene
Liaise with GPs, allied health, and care coordinators when needed
Maintain equipment and ensure safe disposal of clinical waste
Respond appropriately to complications such as blockage, leakage, or discomfort
Strong understanding of Foley and suprapubic catheter management
Excellent infection control and sterile field practices
Ability to work autonomously and make clinical judgments
Effective communication and documentation skills
Empathy, respect, and a person-centred care philosophy
Current AHPRA registration (RN/EN)
Current First Aid & CPR Certificate
Experience with catheter care and continence management
NDIS Worker Screening Check / Police Check (if applicable)
Manual Handling training (desirable)
